Molly Soda has rightfully earned her spot as “queen of the internet” through her prolific web-based art. She runs one of the most popular blogs on Tumblr and has garnered a mass following on other outlets like Twitter and Instagram. Her status as an icon has flourished to the point where she performed as a dancer for Grimes and one of her GIFs was featured at the 2012 MTV Music Video Awards.

One of the most compelling parts of Molly Soda’s online persona is how she morphs her private life into performance art. She has been featured in multiple art galleries (both across the USA and internationally) that feature her selfies, YouTube videos, GIFs, and zines. In 2015, she leaked her own nudes in a cyber-feminism art series called Should I Send This?, saying, “Women SHOULD be feeling themselves… SHOULD be taking control of the way they are represented in media/art by photographing themselves.”

Although Molly Soda is primarily an internet-based artist, she occasionally performs live with spoken word and visual presentations. Lucky for us, she will be hosted by Redhawk Radio on Friday, November 10 in the Cold Snap performance series. Make sure to stop by Oxford’s Kofenya Coffee at 6 p.m. to see her perform with Told Slant, Yowler, and Marjorie Lee.
