Mission of Miami in the Morning:

To provide a reliable, fun, local morning show to the students of Miami University, a place where they can turn in the morning for all of the pressing information they need and also for other “not so pressing” information.  Miami in the Morning will be presented every morning, Monday through Friday, from 7-9 AM (due to time constraints, the first few weeks it will end at 8:45).  This time is probable for a morning show because many students are just getting up at this time.  When students wake up, often they will check their email first, therefore booting up their computer and providing instant access to the WMSR feed so they can listen while they check their email and Facebook and whatever else they check for updates.  Students on campus can also listen from their televisions.  We are especially easy to reach for those who have 8AM or 9AM classes, because we can help them “wake up” in the morning.  While most Miami students hate 8AM classes, most have to take at least one once in a while as a requirement for their major; we can make the morning a little easier on them.  (If anybody wants to cover anything from 9:00 on, let Emily Imes know.)

Miami in the Morning will begin earlier than all programming at WMSR.  This is because it is led by a board member who can implement the show instantly, instead of having to wait to be cleared for the show.  Since it will be on the air before all other student programming, MITM will help to garner interest in WMSR and will also give information on how students can become involved.

Disc Jockeys:

For the sake of a consistent show, MITM will have the same DJs every morning.  (We are not open to any additional DJs for MITM, although if you would like to guest DJ/shadow for a day, please contact Emily Imes.  We are ALWAYS open to news, weather, and sports reporters.)  This will help the listening audience get used to the show and the DJs and continue to listen to it.  The main jockey for the show is Emily Imes, under the name “Skittles.”  (Don’t ask why.)  Also jockeying with Emily will be her boyfriend/assistant, Jacob Mauch, or “Reese.”  (He was the one who insisted we keep the weird names.)  While Emily will run the boards, Jacob will double check all material going out over the air, and will also read the news and weather reports.  Jacob will also keep a log of all songs played over the air.

While MITM can be heard all over the world because of the Internet’s nature, most programming will be focused on the Miami community, as we are “Miami’s student run radio station.”  Four times during the show, Skittles and Reese will provide news and weather updates, with the 8AM break being recorded for playback through the rest of the day’s shows.  (For example, if you have a show on Tuesday at 3PM, you can replay this break during your show.)

Special Events:

Each day at Miami in the Morning will be themed.  The themes will not change the programming structure of the day, but will rather enhance it.  The special events will not get in the way of effective programming but will draw more listeners into the show.  For example, “T-Shirt Tuesday” will garner listeners who will try to win a free t-shirt with the MITM logo on it.  These special events should start by the second week of classes.
