Are you behind on your Halloween costume shopping? Do you constantly find yourself scrolling through TikTok trying to come up with fun costume ideas and saving them in a folder that you don’t even check? Do you want to wear a costume that you are certain NO ONE else is going to wear?
If so, you’ve come to the right place!
Halloweekend is my equivalent of the Super Bowl! I mean, Halloween is the one day of the year where playing dress up is socially acceptable. What isn’t fun about that? Over the years, like many of you, I’ve been chronically analyzing every single corner of the internet and keeping an eye out for the next new trend. And based on all of the iconic moments that have happened on the internet this year, the costume possibilities are endless, especially considering Halloween is on a Friday!
But what costumes will be the most popular?
I have several answers to this question. These answers all depend on analyzing different corners of the internet and taking a look at what is trending right now. In each different branch of the algorithm, what is trending is completely different, meaning there are a lot of unique, fun costume ideas that are niche yet popular enough to become reality. From group costumes, couples costumes, and solo costumes, I have it all! If you don’t believe me, feel free to ask for my screen time. And, after analyzing each social media rabbit hole the algorithm fed me, I’ve compiled a list of what I personally think will be the most popular Halloween costumes of 2025.
If you don’t want to see someone else in the same costume as you, here are some costumes you might want to avoid.
A Labubu

The most unfunny person you know is going to pull up to the function dressed as a Labubu and think that their costume is peak comedy. If you’ve been anywhere on the internet recently, you should be very familiar with what a Labubu is. With its company Popmart earning $520,000 from sales of Labubus alone, these dolls are everywhere you look, from purses to suitcases and car keys. But in addition to people raving about Labubus, there is a fair share of people who absolutely despise them. Based on this love/hate relationship internet users have with the toy, it’s safe to say that someone is definitely going to try to implement it into their Halloween costume, whether it’s because they love the toy or because they think it’s the ugliest thing ever. It’s inevitable.
Elphaba and Glinda

Wicked:For Good is one of the most anticipated movies this year. With the trailer accumulating over 113 million views in 24 hours, people everywhere are excited to see the epic finale of the Wicked movie series. With that being said, it’s inevitable that Elphaba and Glinda duo costumes are going to skyrocket this year. It’s simple, it’s easy and it’s something that represents a symbol of friendship. People are going to eat that up, and because of that, it will be everywhere you look.
Brainrot

I can’t escape brainrot. Teachers of America cannot escape brainrot. Parents of America cannot escape brainrot. It’s inevitable that someone is going to take something absolutely ridiculous that is trending such as brainrot and turn it into a Halloween costume. From the viral inescapable 67 phrase to the Italian brainrot characters of Ballerina Cappucina and Tung Tung Tung Sahur, there’s a lot of options to choose from. It’s safe to say that when our brains are rotted, so are our Halloween costumes.
Sinners

Released in May of 2025, Sinners is by far one of the biggest and most talked about movies this year. Grossing over 367 million in the box office and earning a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, Sinners is the original groundbreaking horror film that people have been craving in a world of remakes. The movie's diverse cast allows for people of all races, identities and backgrounds to be able to participate in dressing as characters. Sinners allows the black community to have an opportunity of representing themselves in the horror scene, with interracial couples wanting to dress as Stack and Mary and white men wanting to dress as Remmick. Sinners is not only a way for people to have fun playing with the fear factor of Halloween but it is also a way for diverse races and identities to express themselves.
The Coldplay Couple

July 18th was a day that knocked the socks off of half the internet. A day where the world was united. A day where everyone and their mom was scrolling furiously on their phones waiting for the next update about the CEO who got exposed by Chris Martin of the band Coldplay for cheating on his wife with his company’s HR manager at the Coldplay concert in Foxboro Massachusetts. After learning the devastating news, the internet did what the internet always does in times of crisis–Make jokes about it. In true internet spirit, I believe that the jokes will continue onto Halloween, with couples dressing up as the Astronomer CEO and his mistress and recreating this moment. I applaud the internet and their dedication.
The Lorax and Mr. Bobinsky

Even TikTok is picking up on the fact that everyone and their mom is going into public places dressed as The Lorax. Started by TikToker @mckenna_dougles, the Lorax costume trend entails dressing up in an orange suit, yellow facial hair and a stomach pillow and roaming around the streets dressed as The Lorax. While the Lorax trend is still massive, with TikToker @_ashbyflorence_ Lorax comedy skit achieving 1.8 million likes, there is an equal side of the internet finding the costume cringe and labeling it as “pretty girl humor”. Once the “pretty girl humor” TikToks were made about the Lorax costumes, people then started migrating to dressing as the Coraline character Mr Bobinsky, with people painting their entire skin blue and adding a mustache under the nose. Although Mr Bobinsky is starting to get grouped with “pretty girl humor”, the majority of people are starting to lean towards Mr Bobinsky content. With Mr Bobinsky videos now starting to gain traction, I believe that The Lorax and Mr Bobinsky costumes will both be popular– just among different sides of the internet.
Marie from The Aristocats

A viral trend often starts from one specific person suggesting it, and in the case of Marie from the Aristocats, a viral suggestion has led to an obsession with the costume. TikTok fashion influencer @marykatefletcher included Marie in her “Cool Girl Halloween” series, showcasing different girls in Marie costumes and suggesting creative ways to make the costume. From gathering up pink ribbons to decorating a simple white corset, a Marie costume has so many different ways to be both cute and unique. And by using the word “Cool Girl Halloween”, @marykatefletcher is persuading girls into thinking that wearing a Marie costume will make them cooler. In a world where everyone wants to be cool, the large numbers of Marie costumes this Halloween will show everyone’s attempt at being a “cool girl”.
Strawberry Shortcake

I can’t make this list and not mention any group costumes. In 2024, the rise of Disney Princess corset costumes took friend groups by storm, to the point where the internet has now turned its back on corset costumes and is now flaming them. While some people will always turn to corset costumes, I think this year will come with a rise of cute and creative costumes. With Strawberry Shortcake, not only is the franchise cute but the amount of characters are big enough to include everyone who wants to in the group. You can be as creative or as basic as you want with a Strawberry Shortcake costume, which is why friend groups will love to do it.
Deer in Headlights

When something one person does is cool, there is a high chance that people are going to want to replicate it. In 2024, “Deer in the Headlights” couples costumes took the internet by storm, with one partner being headlights and another partner going as a deer. Several couples also took the opportunity to showcase their creative skills, with people going so far as to put actual lights in their headlights costumes. With the rise in popularity of the costume, the clever pun and the somewhat sexual innuendo of the lights, this costume is going to take the couples costume department by storm.
Founding Fathers/Hamilton

Hamilton has always been popular, but since its debut to Disney Plus in 2020, the streams of the Hamilton soundtrack have increased by 260% and has been included as a part of Disney Night on Dancing With The Stars. When something becomes popular, it’s inevitable that a trend is going to happen because of it. With Hamilton, it is the “Alexander come back to sleep” trend from the song “Best of Wives and Best of Women”. Started by TikToker @sydwinggold, it involves girls dressing up as Hamilton and lip syncing the role of Hamilton as if he was a teenage boy. In response to this, men have started to play the part of Eliza, lip syncing the song from her perspective and acting like an "over it” ex. With the song accumulating 190.6k posts, the trend of dressing up as Founding Fathers is for sure to continue over to Halloween as it clearly makes people laugh. Whether it will make people laugh or not, the people wearing the costume will for sure “not be throwing away their shot”.
Rio/A Showgirl

It’s unique. It’s never been done before, and because of that, it is going to be done by everyone. In 2024, TikToker @notsophiesilva dropped a Rio inspired costume themed after Carnaval for her “31 days of Halloween” series. With the video receiving over 2.8 million likes, this video took the internet by storm, with TikTokers scrambling to replicate the look and even saying in her comment section that they will be “doing it next year”. After having almost a year to prepare, the Rio costumes are officially going to be out on display this year. Related to Rio, I also think the showgirl aesthetic in general is going to be popular this year, especially after Taylor Swift's release of her new album “The Life of a Showgirl”, which has dominated the Billboard Top 10 for the past 3 weeks in a row. Needless to say, Halloween this year will definitely be glittery.
A Bad Case of the Stripes

For all the niche people out there, I had to include a costume in here for you guys as well. In the midst of corsets and television trends, social media creators have been advertising their own “Niche Halloween costume ideas”. As I scrolled through these, I noticed a reoccurring theme, almost every single one of them included something about being the main character from “A Bad Case of the Stripes”. With TikTokers such as @mostnonchalantgirl receiving over 1.4 Million likes on their “Bad Case of the Stripes” costumes, I doubt that this costume is going to be as niche as people think it will be. In fact, I think they will be quite popular because people think that the costume is niche. They’ll think less people will want to do it, and because of that, less will start to equal more. If you want to be niche, give your skin a break from stripes and find something else.
Kpop Demon Hunters

I saved the most popular for last. Everywhere you go, no matter what age range or place, there will be at least one person in a Kpop Demon Hunters costume. Since its release, Kpop Demon Hunters has become one of the most watched movies on Netflix of all time, with over 236 million views and songs like “Golden” and “Your Idol” entering both the Billboard Top 10 and beating real Kpop groups. With the wide age range of the Kpop Demon Hunters fanbase, little kids and grown adults alike will be celebrating Halloween decked out in apparel of their favorite character. You all better get practicing, because if I see anyone in a Kpop Demon Hunters costume, I expect a full blown performance.
If you want to wear these costumes, please feel free to do so! This is just my silly little opinion. After Halloweekend, I encourage all of you to come back and check how many of my predictions are right (it’s gonna be all of them).
Have a wonderful weekend and Happy Halloweekend from me and all of the Redhawk Radio writers committee!
